Zig I miss you!!
First off, if you have to play rock, paper, scissors to decide who gets to be kirk, the game needs to be rock, paper, scissors, lizard, spock.
Second, I’m glad someone else feels the same way I do about swapping engines out in STO. I always feel kinda dirty doing it. Like I’m getting away with something. In fact, until about a month ago I had never done it, because it just felt so out of place in the game. To be able to switch an engine out depending on the situation felt a little too un-trek for me to handle.
Thirdly, F2P vs. Paid Sub. I won’t play a game that isn’t F2P anymore. Point and case, I recently got back into Lineage 2 because it went F2P. There’s just too much pressure when you have a paid sub every month, to play the game. You have to feel like you’re getting your money worth. The Cryptic F2P model is nice because there is no pay-to-win (sorry Nova) so you almost feel obligated to drop them a few bucks once a month or every few months. If they didn’t come out with new content their cash flow would dry up quickly because the goodwill feelings toward the game would be gone. I also think there is more pressure on the F2P model to develop content and fix issues since the money flow is less elastic. If you have monthly subs, people are paying whether new stuff comes out or not, and are less likely to drop a sub after a bad month. With F2P if you piss someone off, your cash flow is gone immediately.
